Trauma and Somatics Informed Talk Therapy

About
The basis of our sessions is conversation—through words, expressions of emotion, and sometimes through the quiet spaces in between. We gently explore your experiences, past and present, your relationships with others and with yourself, and anything else that feels important.
I am at heart a humanistic therapist. I hold a deep trust in our natural capacity to heal, and I believe that often what we need most is simply someone who can sit beside us as that healing unfolds. I understand that each persons system has it's own pace and innate wisdom and that true healing asks for time, patience, softness, compassion, and the gentle fierceness that is often an element of courageous journeying

My work is grounded in an understanding of trauma and the many shapes it can take. I know that trauma can show up in ways that feel confusing, overwhelming, or subtle, and I aim to meet these moments with warmth, care, and attunement.
Through study and my own lived experience, I understand how these patterns can emerge, and I approach them with gentleness and steadiness.
An integrated approach
Trauma often brings with it a sense of “stuckness”—experiences or memories that have become held in the body, repeating in loops. When this happens, it can sometimes be supportive to use a gentle intervention or technique to help loosen what feels caught.
When it feels right, I may draw from one or more of the techniques listed below. These are never used to hurry your process or to move past something painful. Instead, they are offered as compassionate tools—ways of softly easing some of the heaviness or “stickiness” of your experience, so that your system can move toward its own natural balance and sense of flow once again.
"Together, we can create a space for your mind, body and soul, to remember (or perhaps experience for the first time) what safety feels like"

Humanistic
I am at my core humanistic in my approach. It is your wisdom that is leading the session, and the wisdom that flows through me, that is helping to hold it

Somatics
The body holds trauma, and sometimes it can be useful to work with what is being held in the body during a session. This, as with anything else, is always done gently, mindfully and with compassion

Nervous System Regulation
Most of us are dysregulated in some way, especially when we have trauma and/or live in a city. Learning and integrating tips and techniques for regulations can be really powerful

Psychodynamic
Everything is connected, including the past and the present. I believe in the power and importance of exploring childhood experiences when they appear in a session

Parts Work
We have different 'parts' of us, that experience the world in different (sometimes contradictory) ways, it can sometimes be helpful to explore these different parts, in a more direct way

Spirituality
For those who feel a connection to something bigger than themselves, this is something that we can explore together

Cognitive
Thought processes are very powerful things. I find that sometimes it can be helpful to work with our cognitions too

Bi-lateral eye movement
Sometimes memories get stuck, and there is something that happens in the simple exercise of side-to-side eye movement that can shift things

Intuition
I am naturally intuitive and insightful and find that sharing this when it feels appropriate can be a helpful part of the journey
